A quaint community of villages of Halflings, Faen*, and Kender, frequently referred to as “Smallfolk” not only because of the small stature, but because they also interbreed easily and frequently, is sequestered in the northwest corner of The Vale. The Smallfok of Bydale typically stay to themselves, but some, like all Smallfolk, form groups of nomadic tribes that travel the world, and are often responsible of any influx of information from the outside world into the Vale. These are the ones most frequently to ride the raptors, and use them to pull their wagons. The tamed ones are quite friendly, but around “Lake”, unnamed because of the density of wild raptors in the area that are quite hostile, and one of the main reasons the Smallfolk remain sequestered in their cloister of villages. River trade is most of what makes it in, and many of the medium sized riverboats can’t make it all the way up the river to the villages. There are a few outposts on the way, and some ground traffic in the form of wagon caravans, and daring adventurers foolish enough to travel out there.
The Smallfolk are known for taming and riding the raptors that roam the plains south of Bydale.
